Skin Needling
Skin needling is a procedure designed to enhance and improve skin complexion through the activation of the skin’s natural regenerative processes which stimulate collagen synthesis. We use the Exceed by Amiea Med that is the first of its kind to be double FDA and TGA approved and is clinically proven to visibly reduce wrinkles, treat acne scarring and pigmentation and to normalise skin structure.
Tiny needles are used to penetrate the top layer of the skin vertically causing localised and controlled damage without damaging the structure of the epidermis. The creation of controlled microchannels set off a cascade of reactions within the skin to stimulate regeneration such as awakening the fibroblasts to produce healthy collagen.
We use this treatment to reduce fine lines, combat acne scarring, pigmentation and to strengthen exposed capillaries underneath the surface (eg. certain rosacea clients). Skin needling is a minimally invasive medical micro needling procedure which uses stainless steel micro needles that are inserted vertically into the skin to create an inflammatory response which sets off a favourable cascade of response in the skin.

Skin needling is an effective solution for treating post inflammatory pigmentation that can be caused by acne as well as hormonal pigmentation such as melasma and pigmentation caused by UV.
The process encourages the melanocyte (our pigment cell) to disperse pigment more evenly creating an even skin tone and helps to speed up skin cell turnover to lift stubborn pigment.

Our capillary walls are made up of collagen. As we age, these capillary walls begin to become lax and creep up through the epidermis making them more visible from the surface. Skin needling strengthens and tones these capillary walls making them less prone to dilation.
By strengthening the epidermis through this procedure it means those capillaries sit deeper down in the skin making them less visible. This treatment can be used on certain rosacea clients with great results.
Who can get skin needling?
We will assess your skin to make sure you are the correct candidate for skin needling. As mentioned previously an Initial Skin Consult, Dermaviduals skincare prescription and monthly facials are needed prior to skin needling to make sure there are no contraindications for you to skin needle.

One of the significant benefits of skin needling is that it boosts collagen production in the skin. Collagen and elastin support your skin’s structural integrity. Increasing collagen will increase the thickness of the epidermis, elasticity and hydration of your skin.
As we age, we lose 2% of collagen per year and when we reach menopause it declines at a greater time which makes this treatment so vital to healthy ageing. One session stimulates collagen production by up to 400% and can continue stimulating collagen for 1 to 1.5 years post session. It is a wonderful treatment to minimise fine lines and wrinkles and gives the skin a healthier more youthful appearance.
In terms of acne scarring, skin needling can break up old scar tissue seen in acne scarring and lay down new collagen and elastin to gradually minimise the appearance of the scar.
