1) What skin conditions do you treat?
We treat a range of skin conditions and concerns. The primary conditions we see are acne, eczema, dermatitis, rosacea, pigmentation and premature ageing. We use a skincare range that can be adapted to all skin types, conditions and concerns!
2) What is corneotherapy and why do you use the Dermaviduals skincare range?
Corneotherapy is a type of skin treatment methodology with its core philosophy being to repair and maintain the barrier of the skin and its barrier defence systems. Corneotherapy is about understanding the SCIENCE of the skin and how the skin cells function. We use a corneotherapy skincare range called Dermaviduals to help repair the barrier and correct skin concerns and deficiencies.
3) Is switching to the Dermaviduals a necessary part of the treatment?
Yes, all of our clients are on the Dermaviduals skincare range. It is an integral part of how we treat and manage your skin. Dermaviduals is made in Germany and contains 100% pure ingredients so everything in this range is 100% beneficial for your skin. Dermaviduals is free from any nasties such as fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, colours, mineral oils, silicones and amines. As Corneotherapists we use an Advanced Skin Analysis method that allows us to customise your skincare prescription so it’s completely tailored to YOUR skin. This tailored approach is what gets us life changing results with our clients!
4) How long will it take to heal my skin?
This is a very common question that gets asked. It is highly variable based on numerous factors. What condition you have, how long you’ve had it for, what skincare and treatments you’ve done in the past and if they have disrupted your skin barrier. We also investigate what is going on internally for our clients such as gut, hormonal, nutrition and lifestyle factors. We go by the rule of thumb that the barrier takes roughly 3 months to heal so you can expect to see noticeable differences in the skin months 3-6! The clients that get the best and quickest results are those who are dedicated to their healing journey! Our approach is not a quick fix as we strive for safe, long term results.
5) What is naturopathy and how can it help to improve my skin?
Naturopathy is a holistic approach to wellness based on the principle that the body has the inherent ability to heal itself. Using the healing power of nature and gentle therapeutic techniques, the body, mind and emotions are supported during the healing process. Naturopathic principles are based on treating each person as an individual and treating the whole person and understanding the root cause and not just a band aid approach to mask symptoms.
6) Do you use herbs and supplements as part of your treatment program?
Each person’s case is completely different and has different requirements. If you have a skin condition or health concern – in order to bring your body back into harmony we can use herbs and nutritionals to support your body’s own natural healing capabilities. We focus on a foundational approach wherein triggers such as unhealthy food, alcohol, stress and so on need to be limited/removed and adequate nutrition and lifestyle factors are introduced or enhanced to help improve your condition.
7) How are your facials different from a regular beauty salon? Is there any downtime?
We endeavour to take you on a journey throughout your facial. We use only the Dermaviduals skincare range to gently cleanse, exfoliate, nourish and restore your skin. All our facials are customised based on what your skin requires on the day. Our customisable approach sets up apart from a regular beauty salon and ensures your skin is treated safely. Our approach is to repair and nurture your skin and we don’t use anything harsh or abrasive in order to do this. There is no downtime to our facials and you will leave with glowy skin!
8) Can I come in for just a once-off facial?
Yes of course 🙂 If you would just love a facial on it’s own and don’t require a skin consult at the beginning just let us know when you go to book in.
9) Do you do chemical peels?
No we don’t. We believe we can get amazing results without needing to remove the barrier layers including the stratum corneum (top layer of skin) and disrupt the deeper layers. Chemical peels such as AHA’s at a high concentration can cause irritations which may result in a chemical burn and even trigger hyperpigmentation as a result. When you remove the mature skin cells post chemical peel you expose the ‘teenage cells’ underneath that give you that fresh and rosy appearance which may last for a little while. Frequent treatments however can lead to the breakdown of systems in the skin and lead to hypersensitivity and premature ageing.
10) What is skin needling and how can it help my skin?
Skin needling is a procedure designed to enhance and improve skin complexion through the activation of the skin’s natural regenerative processes which stimulate collagen synthesis. We use the Exceed by Amiea Med that is the first of its kind to be double FDA and TGA approved and is clinically proven to visibly reduce wrinkles, treat acne scarring and pigmentation and to normalise skin structure.
Tiny needles are used to penetrate the top layer of the skin vertically causing localised and controlled damage without damaging the structure of the epidermis. The creation of controlled microchannels set off a cascade of reactions within the skin to stimulate regeneration such as awakening the fibroblasts to produce healthy collagen. We use this treatment to reduce fine lines, combat acne scarring, pigmentation and to strengthen exposed capillaries underneath the surface (eg. certain rosacea clients).
11) Can I book straight in for skin needling on my first appointment?
No you can’t and for a good reason! To get the safest and most beneficial results it’s important we understand your skin on a deeper level. Before we begin needling we require you to be on Dermaviduals for 6-8 weeks minimum. This ensures your barrier is healthy and your skin is prepped with all the nutrients it requires. As we are asking the skin to provide us with wonderful new collagen we need to make sure the skin cells have the cofactors they require in the skin such as vitamin A,B,C and E to get optimal results. We recommend booking in for a ‘Initial Skin Consult’ appointment first in order to get your skin prepped on the Dermaviduals skincare and facial treatments prior to commencing needling to ensure safe and beneficial results!
12) Does skin needling hurt?
No! We would describe it as uncomfortable. Let’s say a 4/10 on the uncomfortable scale. The actual skin needling time is only 30 minutes so it’s all over and done before you know it. We use a very comfortable device that moves to the contours of the face to provide an all over even treatment. The whole process is explained and you can ask as many questions as you need to feel comfortable that this is the right treatment for you!
13) How many skin needling sessions do you recommend I have to see results?
We recommend x4 sessions 6 weeks apart to get maximum results. This is also dependent on what we are trying to achieve and the skin concerns you have! One skin needling session stimulates collagen production by up to 400x and for 1 to 1.5 years post session – so that’s value for money right?!
14) Do you have gift vouchers?
Yes we do and we LOVE spoiling your nearest and dearest! Here is the request form
