What is perioral dermatitis?

A disrupted skin barrier is a key driver in perioral dermatitis.

An intact skin barrier is an essential component of our innate immune system. When our skin barrier becomes impaired, we experience increased water loss and decreased hydration.

Decreased skin hydration triggers an inflammatory response and disrupted pH balance, further resulting in disturbances of surface lipids of the skin.

This all creates a vicious cycle in which the impaired skin barrier leads to the skin becoming hyper-reactive to many products and an increase in inflammation.

Our Corneotherapists at our Bondi skin clinic can perform a detailed assessment of your skin barrier function and tailor-make you a skincare plan to soothe and restore your barrier function and eliminate perioral dermatitis once and for all.
